吉原 Yoshiwara

This is a 2017 Fall/Winter collection. It targets the high street market, customer group is aged 25 and over. It is designed for consumers who want a comfortable, yet stylish street style look. This collection is inspired by stories of Yoshiwara.

Yoshiwara was located in northeastern Tokyo, it was what remains of the famous Edo Period pleasure quarter (yukaku). There were untold love stories in this place. The sorrow of separation with the love and the aching of longing to see each other again were buried in time. Letter writing was the only way to keep in touch. When time past, people no longer remembered the face of their love, what they remembered is the handwriting on the letter.

The concept is to reveal the buried story and emotion of old Yoshiwara with a modern approach. Denim and Japanese calligraphy mesh into contemporary street style. Silhouette is simple, strong and control; yet with a sense of industrial worker look. Colours within the Earthed palette is inspired by the colour of Kimono, it also embraces the onset of autumn, as leaves begin to turn, but with a more saturated approach.
